Entertaining but not particularly suspenseful or surprising, as I had anticipated. Wahlberg was effective as former NYC detective, but Crowe's NY accent was awful and Catherine Zeta-Jones was barely a factor in this movie. Still, not a bad watch, if you don't expect too much from it.

This show was "okay", but not great. The plot was rather uneven and muddled.

Good cast and a script that seems very timely considering what's happening with Toronto City Council these days. The weak point for me was the storyline between Mark Wahlberg's character and his girlfriend. There is a very strange scene where she publicly complains about their relationship yet the viewer is given no indication prior that the relationship was in trouble, in fact quite the opposite.

Tightly and solidly written neo-noir story of political corruption in Manhattan. The script is unusual in not relying on explosions, fireballs, or car chases to carry the story forward. Wahlberg was well-cast as the hard-boiled private detective, conveying both toughness & sensitivity. Russell Crowe, who has mellowed into a more subtle actor, is very good as the soft-spoken, menacing political candidate. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is required to do little more than be beautiful and remember her lines is, as always, under-utilized. The plot takes an unexpected swerve toward the end, when the real purpose for Wahlberg's assignment is made clear. Good script, minimal gratuitous violence, good acting.

Another in a long line of films about corrupt politicians, police, etc. This one just left me hoping that there are more good than bad people in the world.

This wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it is far from being good. Very predictable but still entertaining.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance.

This is a very pretty movie with lots
of production quality and at the same time the most shallow and meaningless movie I ever sat through. Handfuls of opportunities to make a valid statement and open doors for the audience that fell flat on it's face. This is one of the biggest wastes of time and effort in my long history as a movie buff. It is a fraud and a shame. The only good thing that can come from watching this movie is that I may help others avoid checking it out.
A tease. Stay away to one and all.
