Add a CommentThis movie was garbage like most of Tarantino movies. Only Character I could root for was the Bronze bad guy. The part with the blacksmith getting his arms chopped off was stupid and seen it coming from the beginning.
If you want fighting, this will do. Kind of funny but not really. The movie is best for if you want to see action though.
Watchable but kind of dumb.
This is an old school kung-fu movie. The RZA obviously has an eye for action, but has no ear for dialogue. Writing, directing and acting in the movie was likely a bit too much all at once. With better dialogue and narration, this could have been a very good movie. As is, falls flat beyond pure action.
Fun action movie brought back memories of the old Bruce Lee movies from my youth with out the bad dubbing
RZA has certainly watched enough martial arts films to rip them off but he sure didn't learn anything. Maybe if he hadn't written, directed, or starred in the film it would've been better... but I doubt it. The story overall wasn't too bad but the action, dialogue, and execution are terrible. It has a certain flair but it ultimately feels like a lot of movies stitched together, sort of like the ridiculous outfit he's wearing at the temple.
I actually thought it was a lot of fun. It wasn't an amazing movie, but it was, on the nose, everything I expected. The beginning drags, but besides that I found myself enjoying the movie once it got going. Russell Crowe was the best thing about it, and Lucy Liu was a joy to watch. If you're a fan of so-bad-its-good cinema (think "The Room" or anything directed by Ed Wood), classic low-budget kung fu films or MST3K, you'll get something out of it. If that isn't your thing, I'd skip it.
Very boring for a martial arts, action flick. They traded in character development, humour, good acting and exciting action for camp. I don't know how Russell Crowe attached himself to this.
