Hillbillies! Moonshine! Prohibition! Hey, what could go wrong here? Maybe some power plays between the law and the lawless? Without trying to sound sexist I think this movie is more a man's movie than a woman's. I liked the music (Emmylou Harris), and I liked the casting. I gave the movie an extra star for Shia Labeouf who has become a consummate actor. I would say Labeouf carried the major part of this movie. I recommend it.

Don't waste your time. Slow, weird, and boring. I shut it off after about 30 mins.

This is a very slow gangster movie. The fact that it is based on a true story helps it overall. Not one of my favourites but watchable

Story gets bogged down, but its still an entertaining, if not violent movie, about a bunch of handsome hillbilly gangsters.

The setting was beautiful, and the story is very interesting. The screenplay, however is pretty bad and the dialogue is painfully bad at times. Basically a waste of two hours.

Based on a true life story Lawless explores bootlegging (moonshine) operations during Prohibition. Set in Franklin County Virginia, a haven for moonshiners, the Bondurant brothers established a lucrative business selling their moonshine in their store and making deliveries elsewhere. A corrupt Special Deputy arrives in the county and shakes down all of the local operations. The Bondurant brothers refused to pay setting up a series of confrontations. The movie is pretty violent but the story is nevertheless entertaining.

Hard to believe that this is based on a true story (written by a grand-son)...this definitely supports the old adage " Life is stranger than fiction". Interesting- I give it a solid GOOD

This is a great story with a wonderful screenplay by Nick Cave and a very good soundtrack. The acting is solid. There is, however, a lot of blood.
